A mural found in an alley called Orange, in San Fransisco. Retelling us the story that we all love and know, through art. I love getting beautiful reminders no matter where in this world I may be. Don’t forget to use your talents to glorify God so that maybe one day you might be able to share His story using it.
Nav and I started this blog to help others learn from our mistakes (relationship wise). To give out advice that we wish we had received before doing the dating-game. Something that we hope is relatable to those of all ages. And shapes and sizes😂 for me it is a personal topic because I always have my sisters at mind. I never want them to go through anything that I went through and will go to whatever lengths (in my power) to prevent it. I hope we all feel the same way about our siblings and start teaching them young.
Soooo, this post is for our first time daters. Mostly for our younger youth, but definitely not only subject to them.
The first thing you need to do before pursuing anything, is ask your parents. It might sound silly but I know a few 20 something year olds that aren’t allowed to date. If your parents don’t want you dating, listen to them. Don’t go behind their backs because let me tell you, the grapevine moves like wildfire and they’ll find out when your Aunty calls saying that your cousin told them😂 anyway, more times than not they’re right about their decision on your dating status. Sometimes they can just see that you aren’t ready, and they’re trying to protect you until you are. It doesn’t matter if you think they’re right or not, when you honour your parents, God will bless you. “Children, obey your parents in everything. This pleases the Lord.”
Colossians 3:20 ERV
I remember in primary school, this boy asked me out and I told him to ask my dad. I never heard from him again (about the topic at hand)😂😂
Sometimes letting people know that you wont date them until you’ve mediated with your parents will filter out the weak ones haha kidding. If anything, any respectable person will respect you when you show them that you would rather obey your parents instead of hiding it from them.
I see a lot of younger kids in intermediate and high school being in and wanting relationships. That’s fine, but ask yourself, ‘why do I want a boyfriend/ girlfriend?’. Relationships are not about the two of you, it’s about serving someone else. Ultimately, it’s purpose is to glorify God. It isn’t so you can go on cute little dates and so you have someone telling you how pretty/handsome you are everyday. Even though that’s a bonus. Lol (that’ll come hand in hand, but it isn’t a priority). If those are your only reasons, then they are selfish reasons. It means you are not spiritually mature yet and you need to wait a little bit longer and wait on God…… Tbc 🙂
Keep posted for part 2!!
God bless and love heaps,
X (Currently in San Fransisco 🙂 )
Here’s a lil paragraph from the book of 1 Peter I wanted to share with everyone. Enjoy!
“This is what you were chosen to do. Christ gave you an example to follow. He suffered for you. So you should do the same as he did: “He never sinned, and he never told a lie.” Isaiah 53:9 People insulted him, but he did not insult them back. He suffered, but he did not threaten anyone. No, he let God take care of him. God is the one who judges rightly. Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you were healed. You were like sheep that went the wrong way. But now you have come back to the Shepherd and Protector of your lives.”1 Peter 2:21-25 ERV
Can I just take this time to thank you Melbourne! You have a 7/11 on literally every street, and you sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts. No one could ask for anymore than that 😌
love from a doughnut enthusiast,
Morning guys 🙂 I just wanted to share a verse that I’m sure a lot of us are familiar with, Matthew 5:13-16:
““You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its taste, it cannot be made salty again. Salt is useless if it loses its salty taste. It will be thrown out where people will just walk on it. “You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a city built on a hill that cannot be hidden. People don’t hide a lamp under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand. Then the light shines for everyone in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.”
This verse speaks life and it’s something my dad always says to me as a reminder. “You are the salt and light, remember that”. Now someone who isn’t familiar with the verse would probably think it’s such a weird thing to say. I think it’s an honour when I’m being told to be the salt and light. I feel as if I’m an advocate for Jesus and it feels amazing. However the part some of us lack in is the action. Yes we may say we are this and that, but are we showing it?
An example I have was last year, I met a girl who I became friends with. She followed me on Instagram and looked at me and said “Berlin you’re quite spiritual aren’t you? I never would’ve guessed”. She’d said this because my bio had a bible verse on it, but she obviously hadn’t seen it in my actions. I told her I was and she said that’s really nice. However deep down I was so ashamed.. Like man am I one of thoooose ones that profess their love for Jesus on social media, but not by the actions of my everyday living? I was humiliated in myself! I was thinking of what it was I’d done for her to think I wasn’t ‘spiritual’, like had I done anything wrong? The answer was not that I’d done anything, it was that I’d done nothing. I was just living, I wasn’t shining the light of Jesus. When reality hit me I realised that I wasn’t really an advocate. I would just express myself at church and other places but I needed to apply it everywhere I went and in everything I did. From there I decided I needed to step up my game… I’ve tried and I’ve failed miserably at times, but God always pulled me back up. Always giving me opportunities to shine His light. And I want to share one of the successes I’ve had…
Just a couple of months ago I met someone who’s life story reminded me of my own, if not a lot harsher. I shared with her my struggles and how God helped me. I feel as if sharing my story helped and encouraged her. Reminding her the best is yet to come and if it’s not ok right now, then God hasn’t finished moving. The thing that got me, and made me ‘yessssss’ in my head was something very small. Something that others might find insignificant but made me think ‘see God, I knew I could do it, yasss TYJ’ (we have very casual conversations and I love it) lol. Anyways, this girl I was chatting with swore, she then quickly apologised for swearing. That right there was enough for me to think I was actually shining some sort of light. Look, I don’t mind if you’re having a convo and throwing out all the swear words in the world (I have good friends who do this). But this girl noticed that I wasn’t speaking in that same way she was, and apologised. Not that she needed to, but that in itself was a massive milestone for me. She showed so much gratitude and I’m like yup that’s all you Jesus, thank youuuu!
I know I’m not perfect, I’m far from it. There have been times where I seem like some random off the street with no beliefs. And there are other times where I know who my Father is and I will show people how his children act (I try and press for this in my everyday life). I fall short, I’m human. But my God never falls short and He isn’t human. What use are we if we are just living and not shining the love of Jesus. Some people might not even know who he is and are looking at your lifestyle thinking, ‘don’t preach to me, you hypocrite’. Your words and your actions need to go hand in hand. The way someone sees you might hinder their decision on whether or not to follow Jesus or even get to know him. So learn from my mistakes guys, don’t be someone who loves Jesus only on the gram (aw shaaaame lol). Be the person who lives it and breathes it.
Have a blessed day!
Love from across the Tasman (Melbourne).
““Also, God’s kingdom is like a net that was put into the lake. The net caught many different kinds of fish. It was full, so the fishermen pulled it to the shore. They sat down and put all the good fish in baskets. Then they threw away the bad fish. It will be the same at the end of time. The angels will come and separate the evil people from the godly people. They will throw the evil people into the place of fire. There the people will cry and grind their teeth with pain.” Then Jesus asked his followers, “Do you understand all these things?” They said, “Yes, we understand.” Then Jesus said to the followers, “So every teacher of the law who has learned about God’s kingdom has some new things to teach. He is like the owner of a house. He has new things and old things saved in that house. And he brings out the new with the old.””
Matthew 13:47-52 ERV
What kind of fish are you? What pile of fish will you be put into when the net is pulled to shore? This was yesterdays sermon.
Everybody is born into this world a sinner. Everybody has a choice. Everybody has the power to change. Everybody is loved by Christ no matter who you are, or what you’ve done.
Everybody dies. Not every one makes it to Heaven.
We all have our struggles. There will be some struggles that may seem bigger than others. The difference is how we deal with these struggles. Just because I do this blog with my partner doesn’t mean my life is perfecto. Doesn’t mean I’m a holy person. Lol No way. It just means I’m trying to be a better person. Means I’m trying to distance the way I was from the person I want to become. And that is someone trying to get right with God so he can reveal his purpose for me.
Too many people think they’re better than others because their sin is ‘smaller’ than the other persons. All sins are the same in Gods eyes, and God knows and sees everything before it’s even done. So don’t worry about what other people think about you. Just try better yourself everyday, bit by bit so that when we are pulled to shore, we are in the good pile.
God is never too far away. He’s just one prayer away.
Have a good week friends, something to think about during your week.
A beautiful read from service this morning. Refreshing and encouraging❤️
“We are workers together with God. So we beg you: Don’t let the grace that you received from God be for nothing. God says, “I heard you at the right time, and I gave you help on the day of salvation.” I tell you that the “right time” is now. The “day of salvation” is now. We don’t want people to find anything wrong with our work. So we do nothing that will be a problem to others. But in every way we show that we are servants of God. We never give up, even though we face troubles, difficulties, and problems of every kind. We are beaten and thrown into prison. People get upset at us and fight against us. We work hard, and sometimes we get no sleep or food. We show that we are God’s servants by our pure lives, by our understanding, by our patience, and by our kindness. We show it by the Holy Spirit, by genuine love, by speaking the truth, and by depending on God’s power. This right way of living has prepared us to defend ourselves against every kind of attack. Some people honor us, but others shame us. Some people say good things about us, but others say bad things. Some people say we are liars, but we speak the truth. To some people we are not known, but we are well known. We seem to be dying, but look! We continue to live. We are punished, but we are not killed. We have much sadness, but we are always rejoicing. We are poor, but we are making many people rich in faith. We have nothing, but really we have everything.”
2 Corinthians 6:1-10 ERV
We all have that one uncle. You know, the blunt one who’s honesty sometimes hurts your soul lol they mean well, they just speak their mind. Well anyways, I came across someone’s uncle the other day (LOL) he was the cutest little Indian man who looked about 60+ years of age. I was in his way so I moved and he apologised for making me move. He was so apologetic and it was honestly no big deal, I wasn’t even bothered. So as you do, you try and make them feel better by adding in a joke (never again). I cheerfully replied with “awwww no you’re fine, I’m getting some extra exercise”. Wait for it. He replies, all whilst smiling btw, “you need it”. Those 3 words hurt my heart hahaha my face was still smiling and out comes my fake laugh. I couldn’t believe what I just heard but if we’re being honest, he had a point lol. I just didn’t want to hear it, thank you lol sometimes we hear things we don’t want to. But it’s constructive feedback/criticism that’ll help you. It’s hard for us to hear it sometimes because you feel as if people point out our flaws, or things we can’t do properly. In reality, they point those things out to better you. The key is to take it in, and work on it. Now I’m not saying I’m going to take that mans advice (I should but not making any promises) lol but just because it sounded a bit rude, doesn’t mean it was intended that way. He meant well and usually they all do. So don’t take it to heart when your uncle tells you that you eat too much lol he’s the one that’ll tell you like it is. In a harsh but loving way. And yes we all have an uncle like this, don’t deny it lol. Anyways my point is, don’t get angry when someone insinuates that you’re fat and need to lose weight lol just be happy that you’re well fed because there’s always food on the table hahaha
Is your glass half-empty or half-full? How you answer this age old question about positive thinking may reflect your outlook on life, your attitude towards yourself, and whether you’re optimistic or pessimistic and it may even affect your health.
Many of us, have heard the phrase ‘keep positive’ or ‘stop being negative’ at some point in our lives. We all have some days that are better than others. Some weeks we have more food than others and the same goes for money. Some days we have more and some days we have straight zero. Exactly the same with being ‘positive and negative’ so to speak.
These are some of those things that are easy to say but are hard to do lol trust me I know!
Being positive and being negative is an emotional state we have in our brains(mind). We choose what emotion we want to feel. So when someone tells you to be positive and you’re feeling like being negative or throwing a fit today. What are the chances you’re gonna listen to them? Lol Nada. Zero.
Here’s a small insight of positive thinking so that you can have a better understanding at doing so if you don’t already have it on lock. Lol
Positive thinking isn’t you ignoring all of life’s hard taught lessons.
No, positive thinking is pretty much just approaching negative situations we are going through in a more positive and productive way. You think the best is going to happen not the worst.
If you’re reading this and thinking to yourself, ‘Man, wish I was as positive as that person or how do I become more positive in my life?’.
The answer is simple. You have to start talking to yourself. Lol For real for real, you need to start talking to your mind. Self talk pretty much.
Sounds pretty weird but believe me it’s a thing people do. Well, people that have goals and that are successful do.
Trust me it works. And the best thing about talking to your mind about being positive, is that you can do it for any aspect of your life. Whether it’s for work, applying for jobs, dieting, training, religion, negative situations, schooling, sports etc. The list goes on.
Benefits of being positive health wise is that your stress levels are down. Your life span is increased. So the next time you feel like starting something with your partner/spouse please please (double pleases) think twice. Especially if it has to do with the past. Leave that behind us shall we? Okay moving on. You won’t get depressed, higher chance of fighting off the cold/flu. Actual fact lol. Stronger mind game, slow to anger, you’ll feel physically and spiritually feel good and last but not least you’ll have better skills at coping with hard times and stress.
So talking to yourself is very important. Self talk is the endless stream of unspoken thoughts running through your brain 24/7. These can be negative and positive. This is what separates the achievers from the non achievers. If the thoughts that run through your head are mostly negative, your outlook on life is more likely pessimistic. If your thoughts are mostly positive, you’re most likely an optimist (someone who practices positive thinking).
I’m not writing this blog because I think positive all the time and I’m good at it. No, I’m not perfect but I’m honestly and earnestly trying my best to master it. Not easy but small progress is better then no progress at all right? Lol right!
Anywho, that’s enough for now but remember to breathe when feeling like going super saiyen on anyone and always Pray!! Read one verse a day and just be good happy people.
Here’s a verse to think about.
“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22 (ESV)
Ok, so the first time I tried In-N-Out I thought it was really average. Like I’ll never buy you again, kind of average. Like don’t believe the hype kind of material. Anyways, Nav wanted to check it out and I hesitantly agreed. Of course I warned him, telling him what I already thought of the place. But what do you know, one bite and it turned out to be really good. Yup, embarrassing for me lol. Then realised my previous experience was pretty yuck because they hadn’t added any sauce into it. But it was added the second time I tried it. So of course now it tastes pretty amazing cos ALL the ingredients are present. Nav (probably thinking I’m the meanest fiapoko lol) then told me not to go off someone else’s experience. That’s why he still wanted to try it despite my nay saying. Telling me not to go by what other people say, but to try it out for yourself. Man, isn’t that a valuable life lesson in itself? Not just relating it to food (even though that’s a really important subject haha) but to anything in life. For instance, sometimes you miss out on an amazing experience because a friend said it was boring and a waste of time/ money etc. so you don’t end up giving it a go. We’re all different! Something that I might enjoy might not be enjoyable for someone else. You’ll never know unless you try it for yourself. A typical example is disliking someone because you heard something about them. Classic!!! It happens all the time. Let’s just say the secret sauce represents the truth. So your first experience with that person is bitter because you’ve already decided that you don’t like them, based on what you’ve heard. Because what’s missing in the tale is a little bit of truth. Now let’s say that you add that sauce into the mix, so you see for yourself whether what you’ve been told is true or not. More times than not, you’ve been told fabricated stories about a person. It’s like Chinese whispers. The person that’s given you misleading information was probably told that story from someone else. So along the line you don’t really know where the mixup came from. Then you have the odd person that likes to make things up. I don’t know why on earth you would. Moving on… Lol anyways I’ve been through this myself. Turns out I actually loved that person and they were nothing like the stories I’d heard about them. They turned out to be someone that God sent to help me with my spiritual walk. Someone that strengthened me and always spoke life, never having anything bad to say about anyone. I’ve never been so appreciative finding out for myself. Rose if you’re reading this haha I love you! So the moral of the story is… In-N-Out is yum. Go buy it lol
